TerrACE utilizes what is effectively a NE-SW transect to study contrasting exemplar landscape zones. This sampling strategy represents nearly all of Europe’s climatic zones in 6 study areas, (in England, France, Belgium, Italy, Norway, Spain, and Greece). The geographic range of the project will allow us to test our novel tool-kit of scientific methods under the greatest possible number of environmental circumstances, and allow us to apply aDNA analysis on colder climate sites. TerrACE currently encompasses 12 terraced landscapes in 6 European nations, with more planned before 2021.
